This rare, vintage blob top, "black" bottle has no makers mark or volume mark. This bottle was mouth blown into a vented mold. The base is inverted and ends in a pontil. The vent marks are present and on one side run in a line, the turning marks can be seen on the body of the bottle. At the shoulder it is obvious that the shoulders are not level. One shoulder slopes up about 1/4 inch before the shoulder on the opposing side. On close observation, the neck below the blob has marks where it was held with the.......It has striations showing the turning while hot, a coloration line at the base of the shoulders. There is one small chip on the top inner rim, as pictured, and some wear marks and scratches mostly contained to one side of the bottle. This bottle may have held wine, as the inverted bottom was used to hold the sediment of early wines. This beautiful bottle dates to the mid 1800s and was found in the Baltimore area. It does have a little patination inside, it appears to have been laying on its side and water was captured on inside bottom.
The area is only about 1/2 inch wide at the largest point. Measures 10 inches tall and 2.25 inches in diameter.
