Leslie Thompson, the artist, looks to the art of quilting and traditionally feminine textile crafts for her inspiration. She creates the pots by covering a porcelain vessel with a black slip, then carving through the black to reveal the white surface of clay beneath the slip. This technique is called sgraffito. The inside is glazed. Thompson is a renowned artist with an impressive portfolio. She has seven publications and has displayed her work in dozens of galleries across the country. Since her retirement her work has become more difficult and rare to find in the marketplace. Her signature is etched on the bottom of the pot.
