Hiram Riker became the bottler of Poland Springs water in 1876. His bottle, called the Moses Bottle, immediately became a popular item for people to possess. It was manufactured at Salem Glass, in New Jersey, and went through several changes over time, going from a corked, water only bottle, to a screw top towards the end of producion in the 1970s. Our Moses Bottle has a cork top and the federal warning about refilling alcohol bottles which appeared between 1935 and 1964. The Moses bottle was used to package alcohol sold in many of the establishments run by the Hiram Riker Enterprises. This bottle was probably made in 1961 as a 61 appears on the bottom in the bottle coding. The cork is still with the bottle.
