This lovely handwoven egg basket was made from natural grapevines and reed. The grapevine makes a very sturdy frame with two connected halves forming a unique shape which protects eggs from rolling together when being collected. Many people erroneously call this a buttocks basket shape, but they are incorrect. A Buttocks Basket was shaped to fit around the back of a horse when transported. It was quite large compared to the egg basket. Grapevine curls can be seen from the inside near the handle. The natural handle with twisted vines is still totally intact. Tan coloring. Most likely from the 1980s, this basket is a piece of art which is utilitarian. Use the basket to decorate a country cupboard...or go ahead and gather eggs, it will be great for both
Could be used for collecting or displaying eggs, flowers, fruit, and other foraged items.
