Hand Painted 14K Gold Nippon Mustard Server - Mustard server with Underplate

This mustard dish with its attached under-plate plate was made in "Nippon," which is Japanese, Made in Japan. Due to the McKinley Act of 1891"Nippon" was marked on all exported Japanese items from 1891-1921. The U.S., with the McKinley Act, began requiring all imported goods have the phrase "Made by", followed by the country of origin, stamped on them. This particular Mustard server was made by the Morimura Brother's Importers, and by the maker's mark, the Nippon greenish blue mark, on the bottom, we know it was made after 1911 and before 1921. This elegant hand painted little dish was used to hold mustard or other condiments, and has a little hole in the lid to hold a tiny serving spoon. The dish is designed with beautiful hand-painted 14K gold roses and leaves, over tiny raised dots, called moriage embellishments. The underplate is fused to the dish to avoid spills and/or stains on the tablecloth. The dish is in excellent condition. There are no chips or scratches. What a beautiful little addition to add to your table setting. Or perhaps you have the original set with sugar, cream, and salt and pepper shakers.
