In 1909, the William's Cincinnati Business Directory listed a small business operated out of the Ingales Building and owned by Louis J. Goldhoff. The directory stated that the business was a ladies' furnisher, but many of the products sold by Goldhoff were branded with other names. This vintage button hook is one of those items. Obviously, Goldhoff was in the business of imprinting and selling shoe hooks to other businesses that used them as a marketing tool. The button hook, in this listing, is 3in long and features a nail file back. It is lightweight, but made of sturdy material, as is evident by its endurance. As could be expected, the hook shows signs of its age. This is a true piece of small business history - particularly for the Cincinnati area! Louis J. Goldhoff's business no longer exists, but its clear that he produced quality items that would stand the test of time.
