Child Dish ABC Ironstone, Red Transferware with Red Image of Boys at Play - Antique

Looking for more antiques for your vintage collection? Look no further! This is a vintage child's dish has embossed (raised) letters of the alphabet surrounding the edge of the plate. There is a slight crack down the front and back of the plate between the H and I, but is otherwise in fine condition.

The plate is a cream color and speckled throughout. The delightful image in the center depicts two children in a cart being pulled by a dog. The cart is going so fast they are suspended in the air. In the distance is their house with their mom running after them with her arms in the air. This scene is portrayed with varying shades of reddish maroon. This cartoon-like design is drawn with facial characteristics very much like the newspaper cartoons of the early to mid 1800s, and may have been used in a story book at that time.
